Fox ESS G7 for larger single-phase systems with more complex roof layouts

Fox ESS G7 7kW Single-Phase Solar Inverter sits in Fox’s higher-output G Series and is designed for projects where a standard dual-MPPT residential inverter may not provide enough roof-layout flexibility. The defining feature of the G7 is not only its 7kW output. It is the presence of three independent MPPT trackers, which makes the model especially useful on homes with several usable roof areas, mixed orientations or sections that behave differently through the day. On the right property, that extra tracking flexibility is what turns a good design into a much better one.

For larger UK homes, the challenge is often not simply finding more inverter power. It is making sure the inverter can work properly with the roof that is actually available. The G7 is aimed at exactly that kind of project. It supports larger single-phase domestic solar systems while giving the installer more freedom to separate strings sensibly across different roof sections.

Why the 7kW output class matters

Fox ESS lists the G7 with a 7000VA rated output apparent power, 7700VA max output apparent power and up to 10500W max input power. That places it firmly in the high-output single-phase domestic category. For the kinds of homes that justify a large array but remain on single-phase supply, the G7 gives a serious step up in inverter capability without forcing a move into three-phase equipment.

That makes it relevant to detached homes, high-consumption households and properties with significant daytime use or growing electrification plans. It is not an everyday small-home inverter. It is designed for sites where the PV system has enough scale and enough roof complexity that the tracking architecture becomes a real part of the buying decision.

Three MPPT trackers and what they change

The G Series datasheet lists the G7 with three MPPT trackers, one string per MPPT, an 80–550V MPPT operating range, 600/80V max/min input voltage, 120V start-up voltage, 14A max input current and 18A max short-circuit current. For installers, the immediate value is obvious. More trackers mean more ways to divide the array according to aspect, tilt or local shading patterns.

That can be especially important on homes with front and rear roof slopes, dormers, side extensions or outbuilding panels incorporated into the same overall system. Instead of combining too much on too few trackers, the G7 allows a cleaner layout that can help each section work closer to its own optimum point. That is the real-world benefit of the model and the clearest reason to choose it over a simpler design.

Monitoring and communications

Fox supports the G7 with FoxCloud V2.0, and the current G Series datasheet lists optional Wi-Fi and 4G monitoring modules together with RS485, meter/CT and DRM communications. That gives both installer and owner meaningful visibility into the inverter’s performance, status and long-term energy behaviour.

On a larger domestic system, that visibility matters because owners want a clearer view of production and installers benefit from easier support if system questions arise. The G7 therefore combines higher-end PV layout flexibility with the kind of monitoring and communication support that users now expect from a serious premium inverter.

Efficiency, build and site practicality

Fox ESS lists the G7 with up to 97.8% max efficiency, 97.4% European efficiency and 99.0% MPPT efficiency. Those figures help explain why the G Series sits above more modest domestic products. The inverter is designed to get strong conversion performance from a larger single-phase system while preserving the flexibility that its three-MPPT layout offers.

Fox also lists an enclosure size of 380 × 440 × 167 mm, a weight of around 19 kg, natural convection cooling, typical noise below 30 dB and an IP65 rating. Those details matter because they keep the product within a practical residential installation format. It is more capable than smaller domestic inverters, but it remains sensible to mount on a wall in a garage, service area or appropriate external position.

Protection and compliance

The current G Series datasheet lists insulation monitoring, residual current monitoring, DC reverse polarity protection, anti-islanding protection, AC short-circuit protection, AC overcurrent protection and AC overvoltage protection, with optional surge protection, DC switch and AFCI. Fox also lists compliance with EN 62109-1/2 and includes G99 in the listed grid regulations. Those are important details for UK buyers because they confirm that the inverter is intended for serious high-output domestic work rather than only marketing-led specification.

Who the G7 suits best

  • Larger single-phase homes with several usable roof sections.
  • Properties where three separate string groups improve the array design.
  • High-consumption households wanting a serious 7kW inverter platform.
  • Installations where output and roof-layout flexibility matter equally.
